Insider tips at Lake Garda

So many truly special places

The east coast of Lake Garda is filled with small villages, picturesque hamlets and places of pilgrimage on the mountain slopes. There is also the classic walk through the centre of the medieval village of Malcesine, to the Scaliger Castle or to the Palazzo dei Capitani… But many other insider tips await!

They will lead you to the most beautiful destinations.

Madonna della Corona

Madonna della Corona

This extraordinary pilgrimage church was built on a rocky slope that overlooks the Adige Valley. It also houses the Scala Santa (‘Holy Staircase’), a replica of the Roman steps found near the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano. It is worth the steep ascend not only because of the view, but also because of its beautiful architecture.

Santuario di Montecastello

Santuario di Montecastello

This beautiful pilgrimage church from the 17th century was built on a steep rock ledge at about 700 meters above Lake Garda. There is a monastery behind the church. From here, a path leads up to the summit cross, from which you can enjoy a unique view of Monte Baldo and the castle of Malcesine on the other side of the lake.

Campo di Brenzone

Campo di Brenzone

Campo di Brenzone is a medieval village, now uninhabited, and surrounded by olive groves. The picturesque houses, the small church of Romanesque origin and the castle ruins make this small hamlet a truly magical place with timeless charm. The old fountain is the traditional place for a refreshment while on excursions in the area.

Limone sul Garda

Limone sul Garda

The citrus fruit, which was introduced into local culture in the 13th century, finds ideal climatic conditions to grow here. The "Pra 'de la fam" lemon house is a place worth mentioning: It is the most imposing and famous lemon house, which has been in operation since the 18th century.

Canale di Tenno

Canale di Tenno

Above Riva del Garda, enveloped in an atmosphere in which history can be felt, lies Canale di Tenno. It is one of the most beautiful villages in all of Italy. The village is characterized by narrow streets, small squares and houses leaning against each other, all on a slope at 428 meters above sea level. The view of the lake, with the imposing mountains in the background, is simply breathtaking from here.
