The Funivia Malcesine-Monte
Baldo, Europe’s first cableway with
completely swiveling cabs, connects the town
of Malcesine situated on Lake’s Garda shores
with the top Monte Baldo (1.800 meters) in
few minutes.
It is an extraordinary open-air sport and
leisure place where both amateurs and
experts of all kinds of sport can follow
their favourite activity in the midst of a
uncontaminated landscape. Thanks to its
microclimate this area is characterized by
warm, airy summers (average 24°-32°) and
mild winter months with daily temperatures
of the months from December to February
between 5 and 15 degrees under normal
weather conditions. Therefore very similar
the Mediterranean climate.
The snow, which covers the summit of the
Monte Baldo some winter months, longs in
large quantities and falls only rarely below
a sea level of 700-800 meters. Exceptionally
it snows also until the lake shore and
covers with a bizarre white blanket the town
of Malcesine. But the snow remains only
briefly, often only some hours long.
This and other factors, as the lake’s water
and winds, deliver the warmth stored in the
summer during the cold season and lead to a
favorable environment, in which a rich
assortment of flowers and plants develops
and mark the always color-glad landscape,
those colors, which already fascinated the
famous writer Goethe during his “Trip to
Italy”.
The rich collection of flower, found on the
Monte Baldo and since that 18th Century
studied and listed by students and botanists
confirmed still in our days the title
assigned at those ancient times to the Monte
Baldo: the Garden of Europe (Hortus Europae).
